Propane runs RV furnaces, water heaters, stoves, and refrigerators. On a trip you’re usually topping off either removable DOT cylinders or larger onboard ASME tanks — and you want a station that can actually fill what you have.
What to fill, and where
AFDC’s Alternative Fueling Station Locator tracks public LPG (propane) fueling stations nationwide. Stations marked primary meet AFDC’s vehicle-oriented criteria (staffed hours, meaningful fill rate, card payment). That profile often fits motorhomes and travel trailers better than a slow secondary stop. Definition: AFDC field guide (lpg_primary).

Questions before you pull in
- Do you fill RV / ASME tanks, DOT bottles, or both?
- Appointment needed? Last fill time today?
- Can a large vehicle reach the fill point?
- Refill by weight, or exchange cages only?
We show AFDC hours and phones only when the export includes them. Blank means “not in AFDC,” not “closed.”
Camping safety basics
Shut off appliances and pilots as required before fueling. Keep cylinders upright and secured in transit. For general fire-safety education see NFPA home fire safety and our tank safety guide.
